A one-day course for anyone who owns or uses a fixed or hand-held marine VHF radio.
The RYA Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels.
A VHF radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct protocols & procedures.
All new VHF sets are either fitted, or can be interfaced with DSC. If you hold the ‘old’ VHF licence (pre-1999) you will need to upgrade your qualification if you purchase or use new GMDSS VHF DSC Radio equipment.
This can be done by attending this one-day course. The VHF manual to complete the course is included in the course fee. There is an additional £60 licence fee which you will pay directly to the RYA. We will provide you with a link to do this.
At the end of your course there is an assessment with an additional assessor on the day. The course is delivered at Hull Marina, our operating HQ. The maximum number of students on this course is six.
